Perspectives on Art, Migration and Identity: IFAA debate at Artez - Arnhem

The IFAA exhibition tour and debate at Artez, was done in partnership with DAI (the Dutch Art Institute) & Artez (Art academy)

The debate began with a tour of the IFAA exhibition with Students from the DAI, Artez and IFAA artists. The tour was an introduction to a part of the creative process of the IFAA artists in relation to the theme.

The set up of the debate was done in collaboration with Artez and chaired by Andre van Kerkhoven, who also mounted the IFAA exhibition. Below are topics that were discussed during the debate.

The debate addressed the perspectives of the exhibition and touched on the below listed points:


The human body

In relation or diversity of the representation of the face


Domestication

The need to have a home in relation to the discovery of the world in function of art Diversity is as much an issue of class or economic status as it is race and ethnicity


Basics and technology

The view on living standards – the expectations and interpretations from different sides


Giving and taking

Participation of the artist in the project, the complexity of being aware that there can be / is a need to give something back that can sometimes yield no results and can lead to failure.


Black and white

Races – religion and mystification


Language

Culture- key signal of identification
