About Thamgidi Foundation
Thamgidi Foundation is a non for profit Private Foundation and artist-led organization based in the Netherlands. The values supporting the creation of Thamgidi Foundation and its mission derive from a belief of the strength reciprocity of cultures has in developing successful exchange based on mutual respect.
The core of Thamgidi Foundation is in supporting and strengthening cross – cultural exchange and to facilitate knowledge transmission.
Our projects and activities include:
Collecting and preserving contemporary art from Africa and the Diaspora
Running an AIR program, (Artists in Residency)
Giving travel, research, residency and supportive grants
Supporting the artistic development and visibility of artists - cultural operators working in the African continent and the Diaspora Empowering and giving more visibility to Women artists
Facilitating cross border artists exchange within the African continent and internationally Running the IFAA Art Platform, (our major international project taking place in different cities world wide)

Thamgidi Foundation has given since 2005 to 2011 grants worth € 150.000 for supporting international cross - cultural exchange, and runs its own artist in residency and information center. Thamgidi is also a member of several networks among them Res Artis, Arterial and alumni of Asia – Europe network from ASEF. To date, Thamgidi Foundation has partnered with many institutions among them: Res Artis, Biennale of Skopje in Macedonia through the Res Artis award, given by Thamgidi Foundation, Beijing Studio Centre China, Spier Contemporary in South Africa, Art in Aktion Ghana, Africa Centre in South Africa, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, UK, Stichting Art in Redlight in Amsterdam and a three year partnership with the Dakart Biennale. The Beijing Studio Centre in China partnership resulted in Thamgidi receiving a proposal and invitation for IFAA to be realized in Beijing through a partnership with Beijing Studio Centre, which led to a 2010 visit to Beijing, China by Thamgidi Foundation, a proposal by Art in Aktion to collaborate with IFAA in realizing a 2013 IFAA Art Platform in Ghana and a proposal by Au Fil de la Terre ASBL to realize a 2012 IFAA Art Platform in Belgium.
Institutions that have benefited from our supportive grants include: CCA Lagos website, a CPL Lingerwaard website, a Russian artist supportive grant from Free Dimensional and a travel grant for a Mexican artist invited by Academie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart Germany.
Our major success, IFAA art Platform – is a combination of an international cross-disciplinary festival and artist in residency taking place in different cities across the globe.
